I had more time to paint today and I wanted to do something larger for a change. I've been planing to paint this scene for a couple of months, but kept putting it off because I hadn't decided how I wanted to handle the tree trunks. They are big and dark, I didn't want them to be boring, but I also didn't want them to be too interesting. I'd been sitting looking at our one remaining pine tree (after Katrina took out the other six) and I began to "see it". Wow, I love when that happens. Even better is when I can actually paint it the way I've seen it.

I really enjoy this painting; Its looseness and wonderful sense of light and atmosphere. You captured those tree trunks beautifully - I want to pull a piece of bark off to keep!
Oh my Carolyn what a wonderful piece. What are the dimensions on this? Thank you for sharing your thought process also. It gives me comfort that talented artists have to work out things sometimes also. Your lone pine tree (bless its heart) did a wonderful job on inspiring you to paint wonderful woody guardians for the children.
