I have always tried to challenge myself when I paint, but my efforts pale compared to the challenges others give me. This painting of Freddy, a Bernese Mountain Dog, in the snow is the latest. It wasn't so much the dog part, it was the snow part. After much thought, I decided to paint the dog and background, then add the snow on the dog. I think it was the way to go.
8x10 oil on Raymar canvas panel

Wise move. Because that's exactly the layers in which we would see it as well if the dog was before us. Background , dog and then snow....one must follow psychics in order to supersede physics and create a 3 D world on a 2-D place
Wonderful painting and like the process you determined was best...I agree! Makes sense and reads right- great job! Brrrr:)
Carolyn, I love your work. Not only are your paintings beautiful, you are able to portray a sense of personality in the animals. I have been visiting your site frequently - I'm fascinated with how you handle each subject. Thank you for sharing!
This is wonderful! I am so happy to discover your work. Just had a brief correspondence with you through dailyPaintingOriginals, and was curious to see your work. This is great!
