Max was a challenge. The only photos the owner had were older printed photos. She mailed them to me and I scanned them in, but no amount of manipulation in photoshop could do much with them. And the one she really wanted to use was the worst. It was essentially a black dog shape with two eyes and a bright yellow tennis ball (with no shading). However, between the clever use of several black labrador reference photos and a goodly dollop of imagination I painted this.

I missed a few of your animal portraits and just love the last few...Max is wonderful. You did a great job of pulling him together:) Good thing you know animals and how to paint them so beautifully- clever and talented. Especially like the lighter values in his fur:)
