A Good Time Was Had by Al

This is a painting I did a while ago. It's my brother-in-law from a photo I took when he visited us for Jazz Fest. I didn't have time to paint today, and tomorrow I have choir practice, and Tuesday I will be packing all my art stuff in my car. Because on Wednesday I drive to Salado, Texas for a workshop with Carol Marine. YEAH!!! I'm so excited. Now you know why I won't be posting for a few days. But I plan to post some from the workshop. So look for them.

Where's the Picnic?

I had more time to paint today and I wanted to do something larger for a change. I've been planing to paint this scene for a couple of months, but kept putting it off because I hadn't decided how I wanted to handle the tree trunks. They are big and dark, I didn't want them to be boring, but I also didn't want them to be too interesting. I'd been sitting looking at our one remaining pine tree (after Katrina took out the other six) and I began to "see it". Wow, I love when that happens. Even better is when I can actually paint it the way I've seen it.
